The Hospital was started as a clinic on 13.12.1990 as Eye Care Clinic at

P.J.Complex, Opposite Government Hospital, Erode, working on all 7 days with bare minimum staff. 

Slowly the area of the Out Patient Block was increased. On03.12.1995 the new inpatient block – Sri Raghavendra Eye Hospital- was inaugurated opposite to Tamil Nadu EB Central Office, Erode, about 500 meters from the O.P Block.  The Doctor’s residence was shifted to the new building for proper inpatient care. 

As per the request of the patients for the convenience of the out patients, the O.P.Block opposite Erode GH was not vacated and still the Out Patient Department is functioning there. 

During State Ophthalmic Conference in 1997, the Sunday outpatient service was stopped as our doctor was the Organizing secretary of the conference. For the first time in Erode, PHACO Live surgery Demonstration with CCTV and hands on training with goat’s eye was arranged at Sri Raghavendra Eye Hospital during this conference. Around 40 ophthalmologists participated. 

After this, Storz Phaco machine was added. Latter Non-Contact Tonometer, Automated Perimeter field analyser, Carl Zeiss Microscope, AMO Phaco machine, Tomy Optical Biometry, Optical Coherence Tomography - ModelRS330 Duo (OCT),    Yag laser, were added. Laser Centre with Auro lase Green laser, Topcon Fundus Camera is in Out Patient Premises. 

After 2005, Junior Ophthalmologists were posted. After 18 years of service, in 2007, Opticals – Sri Raghavendra Opticals - was started at the O.PBlock.  

The Hospital was approved for Tamil Nadu Government Employees New Health Scheme (G.O.Ms.No. 547, Dated 14th November, 2007) and Retired Government Employees Health Scheme.(G.O.Ms.No. 50, Dated 19th February, 2008)  

The Hospital was approved for BSNL Employees and Retired Employees Health Scheme.  

Our Hospital is accredited for ISO 2008 followed by ISO 2015 for Providing Quality Eye Care services. 

Our Hospital is accredited for NABH Pre – Accreditation  Entry Level Standards for Hospitals.

Dr.S.S.Sukumar, Dr.S.S.Raghavendran and Dr.N.V.Govinda Raju 

are our hospital full time Consultants.
